The “Venturi Global Challenges” consist of a series of technological, but also human challenges through which Venturi intends to demonstrate its progress in the field of electric propulsion.

Taking the form of a specific mission, each challenge is held on a different continent and enables the company to set new records while demonstrating the reliability, energy efficiency and robustness of Venturi electric vehicles under extreme conditions. To date, three missions have been, or are in the process of being, accomplished.
In 2010 “FROM SHANGHAI TO PARIS” in an electric car enabled VENTURI to chalk up a world record for distance covered by an electric vehicle without any assistance (13,400km). This modern- day “Croisère Jaune” leads yet to another challenge, this time on the African continent, paying homage to the “Croisière Noire” undertaken by André Citroën, but also in the footsteps of the great explorer, David Livingstone.
“MISSION AFRICA” is a daunting adventure, in both technological and human terms: a distance of over 4,800km on the roads and trails of Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Bostwana and South Africa in an electric vehicle, without the slightest assistance. Marketed in Europe by car manufacturers Citroën and Peugeot, this vehicle “Powered by Venturi” will be the first electric vehicle to undertake such a “green journey” across the African continent. It will be deliberately exposed to these difficult conditions in order to prove the reliability, robustness and endurance of Venturi electric cars.
Departure is scheduled for May 11th, 2012 in Nairobi, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The journey will wind its way through the great parks and nature reserves of Tanzania and Zambia, run along the edge of Lake Victoria, then through the Okavango Delta to Botswana, finally reaching Johannesburg in South Africa. In all, it will mean a month-and-a-half on the roads of this fabulous region in Africa.
Once again, Xavier Chevrin, who took part in the expedition from Shanghai to Paris, will take the wheel of an electric car “Powered by Venturi”. This standard vehicle fitted with 2 extra batteries has a range of 500km.
Xavier will be carrying all the equipment necessary in the car to film a documentary, as well as an electric paramotor enabling him to take extraordinary shots while silently flying over the numerous large parks and nature reserves found in these countries. A film will be produced at the end of the journey, showing the beauty of the scenery and the numerous encounters, but also the many technical initiatives pursued in Africa to protect the environment.
As the road trip will be made without any technical assistance or reconnoitering, the batteries will be recharged on the spot, depending on encounters with local inhabitants. As the production of electricity is largely of hydraulic origin at this time of year and in this part of Africa, the adventure will be, as much as possible, “zero emission”.
This is, in fact, the strength and main interest of “MISSION AFRICA”, with the purpose of raising awareness, but also taking stock of the state of affairs in one of the world’s most poorly developed areas; 65 % of Africans still do not have access to electricity.
