History of the Bangkok International Motor Show

Bangkok International Motor Show was founded by Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow, Chairman of the Grand Prix International Co. Ltd. in 1979. It was the first Motor Show in Thailand and is still the biggest one. Over the past 40 years, the total number of visitors has reached 54,253,166.

The first motor show in took place from 2 April to 6 April 1979 at Lumpini Park.

With the success of the first show (380,000 visitors) and a great feedback received from car companies, Dr. Prachin decided to move the venue for the second year event to Suan Amporn where the motor show found his home for the next 17 years.

The number of visitors has grown year by year and in 1990 has already passed the one million!

Since the growth surpassed the limitation of Suan Amporn, thus Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow decided to move the venue to BITEC Bangna, which was built to serve such kind of the events. From 1998 to 2010 BIMS was held there.

Bangkok International Motor Show has reached another milestone in 2008, when the 26th edition was listed in the “International Calendar of Auto Shows” certified by OICA, the organization that conduct administration and coordination activities of International Motor Show worldwide.

The show has been developed and gradually growing year after year. In addition, Dr. Prachin has an initiative idea for a greater Motor Show. It was the perfect timing in 2011 to move to the new venue, which is Challenger Hall, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, due to the massive space of 140,000 square meters, which IMPACT is able to provide in just one same hall and at a higher level of international standards. In 2012, just in the second year at IMPACT, Bangkok International Motor Show has registered the highest number of visitors ever,1,959,588.

With the direction given by Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow and the professional team under supervision of “Khun Tae” Mr. Jaturont Komolmis, the third era of Bangkok International Motor Show is greatly successful until today.
